Bacterial/Fungal Canker on Apple Tree

Hi ,
Looking for any advice on what we can do for a neighbours Apple Tree, which I understand may have canker. Not sure of species, but approx 17 years old.I have removed the lower branches which had signs of canker, pruned back 1/3 of last years growth, and any overhanging branches. Just looking for any advice to help or is it to severe to be saved.thanks.
