Is this dead?

I grew this lastvyear for the first time, but not sure if it comes back or not?

    If they do come back, they'll be better in the ground or at least in a bigger, deeper pot. It could be a trick of the perspective but that one looks quite shallow and tapered.

    I think the pic is deceiving but it's about 30cm tall

    Yes, the pic is deceiving! It looks like an alpine pan. In any case, if it's still alive fresh compost or in the ground would be good if they've been in there for a year.
