Abelia

The winter saw off my pot planted Abelia. I have bought a baby plant. My question is, can it be grown, potted, in ericaceous compost. Thanks

They need good drianage and aren't fussy about alkalinity or acidity so I would go for a loam-based John Innes no 3 type compost and alo be careful not to give it too big a pot to start with.

Keep it in full sun and sheltered from cold and strong winds and make sure it doesn't go thirsty duirng hot and dry spells and it should be fine.

There is a beauty just a few hundred metres from here but the soil is very free draining.
In my clay soil it would have died too this winter.
