I used to have 3 TJ's for many years. One was on a east-facing wall and really thrived. The other 2 were on an arch in my front (north-facing) garden. They would often suffer somewhat after a cold winter, but always came back well. On several occasions they looked a lot worse than yours, so yours may well be fine.
