Raspberry canes

Could someone advise me on the best way to store bare-root raspberry canes. I bought half a dozen that I planned to transport to eastern europe. The trip takes 3 days and they would have been fine. The trip has been postponed now 'til mid-April and I'm wondering what I should do with them in the meantime? TIA

I think you have no option but to plant them all together in one big pot and keep it outside and watered until you're ready to travel. You could then decant them into moist kitchen paper  tightly wrapped inside a waterproof carrier bag?

  • Thank you, that sounds like it's probably the thing to do. I was hoping that Raspberries might be like geraniums which I'm told survive drying out over a period of time. Sorry, I'm a late convert to gardening so I'm not very clued up

You probably need to take a look at this … don’t want you getting into trouble or being fined a huge amount

  • Yes, it's an issue which I hadn't realised that's arisen post-Brexit, it was never something that I had to contend with in the past, perhaps I'll re-think the whole idea

Moving plants between UK and Belgium and back, EU but pre-Shengen, one needed a Phytosanitary Certificate. That involved a visit from the then MAFF and something similar on the return. There must have ben a charge but my company paid that.
