If you just use a length of wood marked with spacings according to what you sow, or just in 3 inch/6 inch gaps etc, you can just use your finger to make a hole - or the end of a label, or an old screwdriver . Much easier, and no worries about hurting yourself.
The screwdriver is my preferred method for sowing things like sweet pea seeds or morning glories in pots. Nice and neat
Make a hole with your finger!! Oh, no, no, no. Dirty fingers! Screwdriver, Oh dear, Oh der, whatever next!

Heals on high-heal shoes, perfect!
I'm also not sure why anyone would want to sow carrot seed individually. You sow thinly in a row, or across a container, depending on how you're growing them, then remove the excess when they germinate and start growing, to give suitable spacing.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

"I don't know how you can garden without getting dirty fingers..." Easy ! Sit in a deck chair with a cup of tea and a slice of cake and direct one's other half (Must try that sometime although I'll bet 'er indoors' reply will be unrepeatable in polite society).
"How is a screwdriver any different to using a nail!" Some people, me included, have been trained to only use tools for the purpose for which they are intended. For instance, using a screwdriver as a lever will get you a bent screwdriver, using wallpapering shears to trim toenails will get you a trip to A & E ! Therefore, to we idealogues, the idea of using a screwdriver as a dibber is anathema. I shall probably have nightmares tonight even just thinking about it now
When there's always biscuits in the tin, where's the fun in biscuits ?
When screwdrivers are past being useful @Winston_The_Gravity_Man, ie - the head is worn away, they'd usually be thrown away. I'd rather use mine for something useful We don't all have another half to do our bidding either. Even when I did, if I wanted anything done, I'd still be waiting now if I asked them to do it.
Indeed @Lyn. How on earth did people manage to grow anything back in the day....
