Where is the best place to find a local gardener?

Hi All,

Can anyone advise the best place to search for a local gardener that knows the difference between a plant and a weed? I've been let down in the past by tradesmen who know nothing about gardening, don't care about my garden and can barely communicate apart from asking for money and I'm sick of it. Any tips warmly welcomed. We're in North London if that helps.

Thanks
Darren

Are you on Facebook? In my area there's a Facebook Discussion Group for our village, people are always asking for recommendations for hairdressers, dog walkers, gardeners, odd job bods etc. I found a great plumber through the group.

I second Facebook - the pages relating to our area also have people asking for recommendations for all sorts of things.

Ask a neighbour or whoever ,work colleague, word of mouth recommendations are the best .

We have the village Facebook, Nextdoor, and the Church magazine. Found our lady gardener from the latter. I do most of it but she comes when we are away.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Also, gardening associations have registered gardeners listed by county, maybe RHS may have signpost to listings?
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus

@darren.karp karp When you do find a good gardener join in if possible. Left to their own devices there can be misunderstandings especially at first. So many people take the thought 'Iwill just let them get on with it'. If you are pleased with progress some thoughtful praise and constructive discussion is helpful. A good gardener is like gold dust, if you find one treat see them at your level and not 'just the gardener'. The other thing I used to hate is the statement 'I have a gardener'!
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Capel Manor college is in Enfield N London,  they will often help put ex graduates from the college in touch with clients. They have a wide catchment area so you should be able to find someone. If you send in an advert stating what you require, they will post it. There are other Hort colleges around that will do the same.
