Hares and rabbits are possibly the problem I planted a holly hedge a couples of years ago which they devoured.

Since posting previously about the issue re my garden it has gotten worse and from what I believe now leatherjacket worms are the issue.  They are dozens of them in my tarmac set aside what is in the grass.

Any tips / advice on what products to use regarding treatment? From speaking to my gardener he said such products are hard to come by.

    Thanks in advance.

They usually get killed off in winter here, so they're rarely a problem - the crows/magpies eat any when they do thrive. I've seen more damage round here this year as it's been another very mild autumn and winter, so more eggs lain, and more grubs/larvae emerging/surviving.

I think there are nematodes available, but conditions have to be suitable for any nematodes to work. Not something I use so others may be able to help with that.
Or just wait til they've all been eaten and then do a bit of damage repair on the grass.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • Hi There,

Sowed out my lawn back in June and noticed a lot of a certain thing growing as highlighted in the enclosed image.  I presume it is harmless?

  • Looks like an annual weed. Just pull up or mow off. Don’t let it seed.

  • Cheers for that, sun shining today so plan is to cut the lawn this afternoon.  Grass not too long just going to use the mulching function on the mower and not lift the grass in the basket.

Then just remove and bin any weed seedheads before mowing … don’t mulch them. 😊
