Fingers crossed @Sheps Nothing quite like watching their antics is there ? Going back 50 years, I can still remember when taking my dog for a walk in the evening along a row of terraced houses with small front gardens the sound of Hedgehogs snuffling around and popping out on occasion to see who the intruders were
There's a lady a couple of streets away who rescues hogs, when I see one snuffling around I always think it could be alive and well because of that wonderful woman. ❤
@philippasmith2 Definitely have to be careful about the positioning. Only a couple of days ago a hedgehog rescue posted a photo of a hog who'd got caught in a humane trap. It was a real big 'un and it's spines were caught in the grid. They had to cut the side of the trap off with clippers in order to free it 😞 Getting rid of your rat problem by making it someone else's problem is definitely a crappy thing to do.
@Slow-worm So much respect for rescuers. I don't have the emotional fortitude to be able to do what they do. I took one to a local rescue at the beginning of December with a broken jaw. They got it wired back in place and took care of him for almost two months but it just didn't heal properly. The only thing they could do was put him to sleep (RIP Stilton). I was gutted but I don't think that came close to how the rescuers felt, they were heartbroken. I was half hoping I wouldn't get any hedgehog visitors this year as it's impossible not to get emotionally invested but hedgehogs gonna hedgehog and one arrived a few weeks ago. Of course, I'm stupidly excited all over again🤭
