Thanks for the ideas so far, will look them up.  What about great laurel / rosebay - anyone have this?

I'm confused now. You said you didn't like rhododendron flowers.  :)
The plant you mention is a rhododendron. I don't know if it's even available in the UK.

Do some research, garden visiting, book reading, garden TV watching, speak to some locals.  Only when you see what you want will you know what you need.

We can now only say what we might do with a poor understanding of you and your plot.  Come back to us later.

:-)  So I like the structure and leaves of some of the bigger ones like the one I mention (which Id seen in a park), but you are right, not keen on the actual flowers :-) The one I mention I had seen in a park and I really like it and it reflects what I was after for the end of the garden. So was just wondering if anyone had it.

Did this rhodo have a label on it @Dig?  If not, how did you know which rhodo it was?
There are thousands of varieties.  :)

  • Not sure if your site would be right and they don’t exactly spread much so not sure why I am even suggesting it 🤣 but what about a magnolia?

Just bought a magnolia, but not for that section of the garden.  Another option I saw was a cotoneaster.
