Palm Tree help! Ambulance needed!

Hello everyone,
I’m really worried about our palms… Ever since we’ve had the cold spells recently, our palms have been suffering a lot… as of the last week or so the palms have been dropping almost all of their fronds. It looks terrible! Like a palm massacre! Does anyone know how to bring them back? How to stop this?

Cordylines all over the place have suffered this winter. It's the combination of various weather factors. There are loads of threads on this subject if you want to do a small search through the first few pages  :)

There's one on the first page of the forum.

    There are several threads, qv.

They may only be dead at the tips, but don't bank on it.

    Palm tree, hearse needed!

location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

  • I posted this on another thread, but here's my cordyline advice:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
As others have said, this year has been a particularly bad winter for cordylines.
Red cordylines are less hardy than green ones, and potted cordylines are less hardy that those planted in the ground.

Having said that, those cordylines that have been killed off in the crown will almost certainly regrow from lower down the trunk, or from the ground. I would leave the dead leaves on until the weather warms up. Once the new growth is evident, cut the dead parts off from above that new growth point.

Here's a quick video I made on how I've protected by cordylines this winter, and what do to if one gets winter damage:
