Privet Buds

Hi, I have a row of privet hedge a few years old and all of them have plenty of buds on, except for one of the plants, which has had quite a lot of leaves die on it.  There is nothing on the ground growing near it that looks like fungus.  When i scrape the bark it is green.  And today I spotted one bud. Any thoughts?  Is it dying or could it still bud?

@Dig2006 Is it at the end of the row? Could be a watering issue? The big fear is honey fungus that you should at least be aware of.

No its bang in the middle. I have a feeling its not watering; Ive not actually watered them for months, given its been winter and rainy.  In terms of fungus, nothing growing on the ground near it.

I am not sure I can help you further. You could try uploading a photo but I am not sure this will help. Are other plants in your garden healthy?

Dont really have many other plants currently! But all privets budding apart from the one.  Given it is green under the bark and that i have spotted one bud, I will give it another month to see what happens.

We have a mixed privet hedge and at the moment it doesn't look good but it will come back. It "dies" back and then in the spring it comes back into growth.
