Taro/Colocasia grown successfully for more than 1 year?

I adore the large elephant ears of the Colocasia bulb. I bought a few from Ebay and although they grew well in their first year, the following year, they never returned and the bulbs I stored indoors over winter also died.

Any expert Colocasia growers out there who can shed some wisdom on how to keep them happy?
I wish I could garden all year round!

Oh how I would love to be able to grow the dark leaved Colocasia. Only ever seen it on TV or in a book. They do grow at G Dixter I guess they spend winter under glass?

    I grow them.
I treat them like Dahlia tubers, start the dry tubers indoors, plant them out in the garden in June, dig them up early October, dry off the tubers and store frost free. Start process again the following year.

I used to grow them and I just overwintered them indoors as house plants which was ok when they were small. If they were bigger then I would also treat them like dahlias.

Some of them can be tricky to overwinter. Hardy varieties like Pink China and Gaoligongensis are a lot less faff.
