How on Earth do you get chives to germinate?

When I was a child, I heard my grandparents mention that the reason our friends of Chinese origins grew such healthy and abundant garlic chives is because they would feed it human urine daily. The first morning urine is the best for this purpose. As a child you never forget such things  :D
I wish I could garden all year round!

I think what I’ll try this year is sowing in a reasonable sized pot and leaving that in a fairly shaded spot outside, making sure it stays moist, and then I’ll just leave it and see if anything eventually comes up, possibly next year.

Male urine is best (fewer hormones) and it is of course a high nitrogen feed which is what you want to use to produce green leaves. Water it down, human urine is very strong, say about 20 times stronger than animals like cattle.

Get a pot from here (superb supplier) and split them

No success with sowing seeds but as many others have said once you have some seedlings bought in and planted out then they take over. The bees love the flowers as we love the stems in our food, but we also use the flower buds as well in salads.

I was given my first clump and it's multiplied well over the years as others find. I do recall growing it from seed but believe I just scattered the seeds off the plant into a pot, no covering or anything. I wonder if it is exposure to the elements that they require , perhaps the seeds being fresh too.

@Dovefromabove you naughty girl I had to look at that site and now I have my eye on a few plants especially their scented pelargoniums. Will definitely be placing an order once they have more stock available.
