Mulching

I have a large Pittosorum bush that needs pruning - just cutting back the green outer growth, not any hardwood. I will shred all the prunings but there will be too much to easily compost in my `hot bin`composter.

Can the freshly shredded material be used as mulch around my borders, or will it have to be composted before use?

Any help will be appreciated.

If it is shredded and used to mulch your borders, it will eventually break down over time so I'd say go ahead.
@MikeOxgreen has a thread "Make your own compost" which maybe worth you looking at/posing your question.

It'll be ideal as a mulch if it's well shredded. Best around the existing Pittosporum , or other shrubs/trees, depending how much you have.
Apply when the ground's moist though - works best that way.  :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
