Thanks everyone for your kind responses - certainly given me a lot to think about. Given my experience with San Marzanos (heartbroken is probably something of an exageration) I feel a bit wary of plum varieties. I think I'll give the Black Krims a go and maybe try one or two Romas and see how I get on. It's all a learning process after all.
I’ve grown a few different varieties over the years and never had BER, I don’t think it’s the particular tomato that’s the problem. Roma is very much like SM Italian Plum type.
