Is my ornamental grass plant dead?

Hello. I've had this plant for a few years. Growing well, but after this winter it went brown. It looks dead to me. But is it? Or could I save it somehow? Any advice appreciated. Thank you

It's been a very common problem this winter for phormiums, and other plants.
Wet then a freeze in a repeated cycle is the reason. They really don't like sitting in cold wet ground long term  :)
If you wait, it may come back - they produce new foliage right in at the base, and you can then cut off all the dead stuff. Just take care when doing it as the old stems, and the ones you cut off, can be very sharp. Scissors are ideal for the job.  :)
However, it's also worth creating a proper space for it by cutting away the turf in a circle/square around the base, so that it has room ,and looks tidier. It would gradually shade out a good bit of the grass anyway.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you for info. I'll give it attention it needs. 😊I hope it comes back. 🤞🏻
  • Mine also looks the same. I’ve seen a few people have cut theirs back to about a foot, so I am trying that next week to see if it can be saved.
