I’ve been told that to break down the surface you need to put soapy water over it . I’ve never had the problem so can’t say first hand that it works . You could try it .
@Dovefromabove in the past a mixture of topsoil and well rotted manure… and also another time with numerous bags of Westland veg soil …. That was the worst ever….
So do you think I should stop eating the leaves then??? 🤦🏼♀️ I think I probably know the leaves don’t matter much it’s the fruit produced overall but clearly what the leaves are doing matter to a degree as it’s these that show the plants health?
No the fruiting overall is rubbish year on year now compared to the first 6 years of living here ….
@Heather Reed tomato leaves curling is usually a sign of the plants trying to conserve moisture. Do you shade your greenhouse using whitewash? As for the ‘hydrophobic’ soil instead of keeping changing it, to fix the problem you need to dig in organic matter and use a wetting agent. Wet n gro is a wetting agent which you add to your watering can when watering. It breaks down the surface tension allowing the water to penetrate the soil. Use it once a month and every time you water instead of it sitting on the surface it will do what it is supposed to.
@Dovefromabove I thought the same thing when problems started so that’s why I dug a lot out and replaced and then it’s almost like it got worse…. I replaced with the Westland stuff but maybe even that could have have had something wrong with it?
I don’t use whitewash no, but I do have half the greenhouse in shade, the shaded half however isn’t the bedded side… my greenhouse isn’t exposed like a greenhouse should be really although it gets a lot of sun.
@Fairygirl sorry no pictures, I will take some this time to show you all what’s happening, just to add that I know exactly what to do to care for tomatoes it’s just that all of a sudden my greenhouse seems to be allergic to them 🤷♀️
