It's laughable when they come out with this sort of guff:

Yeah, the council just loves trees as long as they're out of the way and don't interfere with lucrative development.

North London is facing a wide spread removal of London planes, most over 100 years old. They have got very large on small streets and some are genuinely causing problems. The council is pretty much bankrupt and insurers are demanding the trees are taken out. It is a quandry being faced all over my neighbourhood.
Sorry @Fire that wasn't a criticism I was just surprised that Sheffield City Council and/or Amey hadn't used that as a further excuse for tree felling during the height of their stand-off with residents.
