@young codger, the named cultivars are bright coloured but they come from a wild plant that is straggly and mauve, hence 'poorer' in garden terms. This is what I was referring to in my answer and what @bédé is referring to

Your pic was of a class aubretia. If you look around in seasom you will see poor weedy-looking plants. Once you've seen then you'll know what I mean. Small flowers, few flowers, faded mauve colour.
