Watering roses before a frost - newly planted roses....water or not?

If there is going to be a frost, a sharp one, do I still water the newly planted roses just the same?

Are they planted in the ground? Or in pots? Generally you should always water, yes. In the ground they aren't likely to be adversely affected by a frost

My understanding is that watering newly planted plants does 2 things. Obviously it gives them a drink but I understand it also improves soil to root contact. For roses in the ground I would definitely water them in. Roses in a pot I would give them a light water to settle the soil but I definitely wouldn't saturate the compost.

Yours are in the ground so no worries.

I had this dilemma a couple of weeks ago when helping a friend with root pruning and repotting her roses. We did the light watering after repotting and then she gave them extra water when temps were forecast to be above freezing for a few nights.
