strawberry patch advice required plese

Hi, I have 4 smallish strawberry beds 2 of which are 5 years old now.
I have dug one of these beds out today with a view to do the other 3 beds 1 a year over the next 3 years.
What I  would like advice on is -
A- what veg is best to plant there this year ?
B- is it ok to plants strawberries in that bed next year ?

Thanks in advance, Les

There's no problem with planting strawbs again in the same site, so that's fine  :)
The veg you grow depends on what you like  ;)
It also depends on how rich the soil is in the beds, as some veg won't like that. If there's been no extra food added over the last 6 months or so, that should be ok.
Lettuce, peas, beans etc should be fine. Carrots too if that soil isn't too rich. How many plants will depend on the size of your beds.

Strawbs generally become less productive over time, so saving the runners and growing them on is the ideal solution, working on a three year cycle, approximately. After about three years, the original plants are completely replaced. I'm guessing that's what you're already doing  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
