Bottle Brush

My bottle brush looks dead. It is about 15-16 ft tall and 10 foot diameter. This would have been its 20th  year this year. After looking at some of my others they have died too. They are 100 ft apart and some 300 ft apart. What do you think kill them. If I cut them back to 18” at the stumps do you think they will comes back? Also look at pic of a dead limb attached. What is the little hull  looking things. I don’t think this is what killed it.

Yes, the twig there is dead.  The little bumps are the flower buds that would have been.

My bottlebrush died this winter too. I think the combination of very wet weather followed by that icy spell did for it.

You could try cutting branches back to see if any are still alive. I did but found none.

    Good luck.
Thanks, I’ll cut it back soon I think I’ll wait to see what this 75 degree days do before Easter then cut back? What do you think? Maybe cut it back in April?

Callistemon...common name bottle brush. Surely those bumps are the seed capsules rather than dead flower buds.

In our area (norwich) some have died but others still look ok so I don't think it's an easy answer. The ones that look like they have more shelter are the ones that have done better and the ones in more open aspects have succumbed. That would suggest it is more cold wind or cold temperature related. We have had colder temperatures where they seemed to be ok but not such prolonged cold without the insulation of snow.

Mine is in a pot outside next to my house. The side nearer the wall looks green but the other side has very blotchy leaves.
