What is wrong with my star jasmine?

edited February 2023 in Problem solving
Hi there,

Please help me identify what is wrong with my star jasmine. Its leaves are turning brown and whole stems seem to be dying off. I thought it may be frost damage since the winter but it's only getting worse. We live in the north west so there's been no issue with underwatering!
Thank you so much for any advice 🙏

They're not hardy throughout all of the UK, but yours may just have a few frosted leaves.
I had several and would often get a few dead leaves after frosts, but when spring arrived they dropped the dead leaves and grew away well.
I think yours is still alive, so just see what happens in Spring.

It's very close to that wall and so may be in a rain-shadow - depending on which direction it's facing.

When I had Star Jasmine at my old house in France it often looked like that at the end of winter. Give it time, I expect it will grow new leaves when the weather warms up.

When you say north west, north west of where?  :)
While I'd agree it's very near the wall, which isn't always helpful, the location is a major factor with these climbers. They don't thrive up here, never mind further north. The climate simply doesn't suit them.
If you're in a suitable location for them, then it may just be temporary as @Pete.8 says. If it thrives, you'll also need good supports on the wall for it  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
