Good evening. Please can anyone help me to distinguish between these two types of lavender. I have mixed up some young plants and now can’t tell them apart. I don’t want to wait until they flower.
In my mind Hidcote leaves are more green than Munstead, but maybe slightly less lax?But whether that’s really the case I’m not sure plus I suspect the latter may may be more apparent in larger plants.
Other than trying to divide into two groups based on any obvious defining characteristics, I’m not sure what to suggest. Maybe a sniff test might separate the two? Even if you’re not then sure which are which….
I share the frustration, I mixed up my Cosmos last year. One lot were destined to have pale pink and white flowers and the other bright zingy orange and yellow 🙄
Just thought it might be worth looking at one of the Lavendar Farm/Nursery websites. I’m sure they might have more detail on the characteristics/ differences or may be happy to help if you drop them an email.

Munstead is smaller than Hidcote. Not sure if this is helpful at this stage. There are also subtle differences between the leaves. In flower noticeably different.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
