What is this?

Hi All,
First post here, but needing a bit of advice please.
My wife brought this reduced from a garden center ( She liked the look of it) but it has no label or care instructions. Her plant finding app on her phone does not recognize it either
Does anyone know what its called and how to look after it please.
Thanks Ian

It looks like an Elder (Sambucus) to me @julia99. If that's correct, it should be outside in the garden, it wants to be a large shrub/tree.  Needs a fair amount of space, and not suitable for indoors, or such a small spot.
  • I bet it was expensive … even when reduced!

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Hi Thanks for the replies,, She didnt think it was expensive ( Its all relative though)...reduced to £30 from £140.
I had another reply someone thinking its a ming aralia plant ( The leaves look similar) . It was in the indoor section of the garden center as well ,so I may do a bit of research into this. Thanks for the reply KeenOnGreen, much appreciated. cheers

My Sambucus is only just starting to bud in the garden - I think your plant may well be a houseplant.  I don't know the Ming aralia plant but it looks like one I've just googled!

I agree about Ming Aralia. Hear is a link about how to care for it. It is a houseplant, so don't plant it outside!

Looks to me like its been exposed to a lower than ideal temperature ; anything below 15C can be very detrimental .

I agree. Even taking tender tropical houseplants from the shop to the car and from the car to the house on a chilly day can cause damage. I hope it recovers.
