Hi @victoryhamster. Unless the person who originally planted it was a keen collector, it's likely to be a fairly common variety, readily available. There are many many varieties within each type, but have a little search for A. palmatum, as that ties in with the foliage on yours.
Most of the reds have great autumn colour, and the summer colour is dictated quite a bit by the site and the amount of sun they get. They're greener during summer when in more shade, which ties in with the hydrangea as they like a fair bit of shade .

This is a good stockist, so you may see something similar, or indeed something which will suit you very well. A. pal. Bloodgood for example, is popular and pretty easy in terms of care   :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Acers colour up differently depending on the season and the specific location.  Mine have different coloured autumn leaves in the sun to those out of the sun.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

  • Oooh thanks both. Thanks for the tip on palmatum bloodgood that looks amazing. I will remember to plant my new one more in the shade!
