Thank you @GardenerSuze and I have had irritable eyes after spending time under it when pruning - thought it was just me! I think my established jasmine is so emeshed in the Ceanothus that it is hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. In fact the blackbirds are nesting in it. Thanks for your thoughts on this - it is very helpful for me to hear from experienced gardeners. I know this wasn't my thread, but I have learnt some useful things.

Thank you clamarver and GardenerSuze for being so helpful. The trees are all six years old and I was told when I planted them that 10 years was probably the most I'd get from them. Once they're done flowering this Spring I think I'll raise the canopies slightly on them all, trim back some of the stragglier growth and see how they do. Even if it's a disaster, I'll lift the stumps and plant a couple more because a garden without them would be too sad And next time around maybe I can be a bit more diligent about the pruning - I honestly didn't expect them to grow as fast as they did! Thanks again
Tanty2 that sounds great and I must admit one minute mine was a tiny shrub and the next minute a full-grown tree! I am so glad you will keep growing Ceanothus TB. I am addicted to them now too!
