Looked at best before date on some products and couldn't find it. Fresh!!! Talked to a worker and now it is up to the customer to make the decision. They don't have to put dates on many products..fresh and cooled products.
That policy has been in existence for a few months now and it annoys me. If I want salad produce for about six days’ time I would like to know it would be still good by then.
I used to work for a company slicing and packing bacon for supermarkets and the individual supermarkets decided how long the dates were....this was over 25 years ago.
If one supermarket returned anything we had to repack it for another customer who would accept a lower grade or shorter date.
I;m pretty sure Waitrose filled past has a date about 4 weeks in advance, but Sainsbury's is about 6 weeks. Any reason for this? i doubt it. Any science behind it? I doubt that too.
