Long reach pruner won't automatically retract blade

Spent good money on a long reach (telescopic) pruner from local garden centre. It's the rope ones on pulley system. After I cut a branch, the blade won't automatically pop open again. I have to physically open it again which is not as it should be when you are in the process of pruning an entire tree. Any ideas how to fix this please?

I've got a long Wolf corded bypass pruner and I've had the same happen.
In my case it was the cord had jumped off of one of the wheels on the mechanism and it kept jamming open. I just moved the cord back to where it should be and they were fine.

If none of the suggestions work, take it back and ask for a replacement or a refund. It might be faulty, or just a poor design. The worst they can do is say no.

  • Yes if recently bought and faulty then they should replace them.
Just make sure there is  nothing sticking in the blades or pulleys,  try them several times when close to you not extended so you can see what's happening.

Could be pivot bolts too tight or require oiling or a slight nick in the blade fouling the fixed blade

Have you got a pic of where they all should be please?

    Thank you Pete.8

I'll compare your pics to my pruner.

It's very kind of you to make such an effort - much appreciated
