I have bought from Sienna Hosta and the plant quality was superb. I saw them at the Malvern Spring Show but they had sold out of the ones I wanted so I had to get them online from them.
Thank you @KT53, that really helps to know of your positive experience. I placed an order with them after being impressed with their website and range. Thanks also to @Dovefromabove for the initial link!
I think I'm at something near 260 varieties, and I aint stoppin' yet.
You are some fan!
You probably buy from Bowdens. But now the original owners have taken a back seat, I understand that they source from The Netherlands.
Hostas rarely look good when young. Garden centres are not a good place to choose them. Visit a good specialist nursery (perhaps online, or their stand at a flower show).
The green man said: Please remember to cover your pots with grit……. He meant cover the soil of course. Probably anti slugs/snails. Or possibly moisture retention. Good grit always improves the appearance of a pot, but my hosta leaves completely hide the soil. and the frosted rims of some pots.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand. "Have nothing in your garden that you don't know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."
Thank you @TheGreenMan, I always use grit on my pots, mainly to keep moss and weeds away. Slugs seem to have retreated from my garden since I removed a large bed of Bergenias (slug paradise!), plus I've got some determined blackbirds here!
That's interesting what you say about Bowdens @Bede. I bought some hostas from them nearly 20 years ago. They now seem to have incorporated other small specialist nurseries in their business too.

I've never bought from Bowdens, even though it's only about 20 miles from me. Their reputation has plummeted over recent years. Most collectors avoid them now.
