Coprosma (Pacific Dawn)

Hello - wondering if someone can help...

I've had a few (4-5) Coprosma (Pacific Dawn) plants around the front and back garden (ie different aspects) for the last 5-8 year - so they were all mature plants.
This winter they seem to have died. I read recently they are not very winter hardy, but they have never suffered in previous winters (snow / beast from east etc). I also live in the SE of England, so we don't get extreme temps.
If all the leaves have fallen off them (never happened before) - will they all be dead. They look very 'woody' and certainly there is no 'green or sappy' branches at their extremes ?
Just don't understand what was different this year ... unless there's been a pest / disease going around ?
Guess if I now know they're susceptible - it's not worth replacing them ?

Definitely not hardy. Surprised you have got them through previous winters, although this has been a particularly cold and wet winter.
How can you lie there and think of England

@dave412966AOnC6NzP Pacific Sunset is not hardy here. You do see them at Garden Centres locally but I would not buy for that very reason. There are going to be some losses this year including Hebes, Cordylines, Ceanothus so I wasn't suprised you have had problems with Coprosma. The very cold winter temperatures are the cause something we haven't experienced for a few years.
I would wait a while and see how they go then cut back a couple of stems and look for life. If they are loose in the ground that is it, a healthy plants root should be creamy/white in genera at the growing tipsl if all is well.
The GC's don't warn their buyers , only so much you can put on a label I guess. As gardeners we have to judge, if you can checking on a phone can help.  Welcome

Just to add I am surprised you have kept and enjoyed them for so long.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • Thanks all - gotcha.

I'll stick to bullet proof euonymus then :)
