There are a lot of people on this forum who are interested in growing veg so it is natural to look at those threads which mention them. You can always pick up a tip or 2 and whilst this particular thread has probably run its course, plenty have done what the OP requested and posted their veg bed plans - no mention was made of having to sit down with compass and ruler, produce a diagram and then post a pic of it. By the time I'd done that, most of my seeds would be sighing and saying "Just plant us FGS - we promise not to moan "
I have a STRATEGY - the overarching principles that set out the parameters of what, how and when I grow. I also have a PLAN that I have developed and refined over the years that implements that strategy.
However, my plan is not your plan. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all, best, worst, universal, correct or incorrect plan. It’s personal. It depends on your climate, aspect, soil, space available and irrigation capacity. It depends on whether you are growing commercially, for your family, for one. It depends on whether you are aiming for self-sufficiency or just growing a few things for the pleasure of it. It depends a great deal on what grows successfully in your particular conditions and and what you actually like to eat. It depends on what the weather is doing in any one year - the best laid plans are often thwarted by late frosts or summer drought.
Even taking all those things into account, e.g. a specific vegetable grows well for you and you love to eat it, if it tastes no better and costs more to grow than the shop-bought equivalent then it may not be worth the growing space. But if you enjoy growing it, it might.
So, do you still want to see my plan?!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I am reminded of Asberger's Syndrome which a member of my family has, so does Chris Packham the wildlife chap. They like fine details. Don't be too harsh without knowing the background.
I always did a plan of the veg garden when I had my old house, especially when I fed my family from it, 6 of us. I can't post my plans here because they are at home in France and I'm in the UK at the moment. I grew a large variety so it had to have some order and planning.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
