What is this by pear tree?
Any ideas what this is shooting up by pear tree? I don’t believe it’s pear. Does look like some kind of tree? There’s a tiny shoot at back too. It’s been growing a long time and has looked more tree like with time. It didn’t have green buds like this last year? Any ideas really appreciated!
Thanks!

In the sticks near Peterborough
It does look quite hazel -like.
Where is the pear tree? They're usually grafted, and if that's coming from below a graft, it will be different from what's above it.
They're often grafted onto Quince though, and it doesn't look like that.
Something that's been dropped by a bird or similar, could be the reason for it being there.

Many fruit trees are grafted for that reason. Apples, for example can grow enormous, so it can be beneficial if they're on a rootstock which will limit that size and be well suited for smaller, domestic gardens
That looks a bit far away from the pear to be a sucker of some kind, but someone else will know better than me on that score. @nutcutlet will probably know.

The fields where I walk with my dog have lots of it, so I had a look this afternoon. The buds are still silvery white but not open yet
