Thanks gang I have just been told that my friend had a liking for Begonia and Calla. Could it be either? I will however edge my bets and plant sideways, as recommended
I don't think they're begonias - their tubers are flatter with a depression in the top, and the ones I've had were brown and a bit hairy. Callas are a possibility - Google throws up some images that look a bit like yours but some that are more brown.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Las Post - hopefully sorted. I have looked at a couple of Calla videos and that is what I am going with, so will plant the round smooth part facing down and if I am wrong (as you all say) it will sort itself out. Thanks for all your help.
Definitely not Begonia. Not too sure about Calla, mine are not like that but yours may be a. Different type. I’ll try and dig up one of the Solomons Seal tomorrow and compare.
