I doubt you'll get bare root of those easily, apart from hedging suppliers and it would be expensive to get just one specimen.

This is a highly regarded supplier. You could ask about bare root, but it's very near the end of the season for bare root anyway

Many thanks, Fairygirl, will definitely have a look at that. 🙂
  • I got my hawthorn and fruit trees from https://www.ornamental-trees.co.uk/

If you order from ornamental trees from now until Monday, you'll get free delivery @CazzieT!  (They are based in Yorkshire.)  I got some excellent shrubs from them last year.

  • Great, thanks, februarysgirl and Plantminded - I'm going to have to get my skates on (and that's after I've actually managed to dig a suitable sized hole in the bed to check that it doesn't cover a limestone pavement, as we seem to have elsewhere in this inhospitable plot!).

Roots Trees specialise in bare root trees, bit expensive though, I think I would pick up the hawthorn and rowan as 40-60cm bare root hedging plants (which would cost a few quid each) - depends how patient you are.

  • Thanks for your suggestion, Loxley, but I'm old and impatient so will have to have a standard tree!
