Garlic chives sold in Chinese supermarkets - I wish to grow these?

I've tried several garlic chives seeds but none of them have grown into those flat long leaf chives sold in Chinese supermarkets. Anyone grown those successfully, and if so, where did you get the seeds, what did you plant in, what care did you give, what did you fertilise with, how long after sowing did you harvest please?

I had these in my last garden for a while, bought already growing in a pot which doesn't help you.

I know you want seeds, but many nurseries/garden centres do sell pots of garlic chives if you can't source the seed.  The one's I had last year were flat leaved.
  • Chiltern Seeds have them

    They're a very reputable supplier.

  • I wanted to do the same. I sowed some seeds last year but heard that they'll take three years to establish. And once established, they are very low maintenance. Some recommended buying the bare root ones (available on ebay etc, perhaps the nurseries mentioned above too) which are much more efficient.
  • If buying from Ebay or some other similar source, beware of the risk of not getting the real thing ... you could end up with Allium triquetrum ... the Three Cornered Leek sometimes known as Garlic Chives ... they're a very invasive plant and a problem in many gardens.

That is very true. I ordered seeds from Ebay and most didn't grow, or grew into plants that didn't match what I bought.

Victoriana nursery has plants! I ordered one from there a couple of years ago, I’m going to get a couple more this year :)

  • I got my garlic chive seeds from DtBrowns years ago. Had them in a 12inch pot for 4 or 5 years with virtually no care (pot bound and often forgot to even water them) and they grew just fine, coming back each year. Last year I replanted them into the herb bed and again they were fine. I have dug them up and moved them AGAIN just the other week and the shoots are just coming up now. They seem indestructible.
