Geum division

Afternoon all,

Today I have divided some geum 'totally tangerine' that have been excellent plants for the last few years.

I have immediately transplanted them back into the bed.

Wilt has set in immediately despite an almighty soak!

I have immediately reacted and cut them back in the hope of de-stressing them. Now I wonder, was I reckless?

  • I’d probably have done it in late September or left it until late  spring, otherwise do it layering the spring when the soil is warming up a bit more … I’d cut them quite hard back before replanting.

If splitting in Sept I’d take some root cuttings at the same time.

  • Ah damn. Fingers crossed they survive...

I agree, not really the right time of year. If possible l would dig them up, pot them up and put them somewhere sheltered such as near the house wall.
If you can do this, l'd suggest a pot for each one just big enough to fit the roots in, so they're not "swimming" in compost.
  • Thanks! Every day is a school day!
