  • @Fairygirl I am sure a wonderful opportunity to plant something else.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Indeed @GardenerSuze, although I'm very fond of that variety, so I'll probably get another one. I love the dark ones too, but it's fine, I'll get a couple at the nursery next time I go   :)
With all that talk of clematis again on an earlier thread- I'm tempted to get one of the herbaceous ones. It would be a good spot there ... ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • @Fairygirl As Iv'e mentioned before I love Platt's Black but won't buy it!

  • @Fairygirl Even here it won't survive the winter even a milder one and the same for Blondie. Why is it that the very best ones aren't hardy?

Blackadder is pretty tough, so that might be a better alternative. It's only this winter that it's popped it's clogs here. I've grown it for a long time, and it divides well too. I don't grow any of mine in the normal borders though - all in raised beds or containers, so its easier for getting the drainage.  :)

Our Platt's Black is looking the best out of all of ours, but it's the only one in the ground. The Cream Delight and Evening Glow are both in pots, and looks dreadful. So nice to hear so many other people facing similar problems, but I also feel your pain if you completely lost any plants.
