Any IDs for this plant?

My mum has just moved into a new house. The old owners left a few plants behind. I know Feb isn't the best time of year to ID herbaceous or deciduous plants, but wondering if anyone might recognise these brown stems.

They look kind of woody but in actual fact the stems feel more like paper straws. They're pretty soft and almost feel hollow.

  • Ah thank you! So no chance of a revival? My mum will be pleased, she was hoping to compost them I think  :D
  • Yes … good compost fodder 👍

  • @Dovefromabove and @Nollie thank you so much! She will be delighted  :p
  • Have a look in there for creamy coloured grubs with chestnut coloured hats on. If there are any just spread the compost out on a sheet of plastic for a few days and let the birds enjoy some delicacies … they’ll be vine weevil grubs. 😖

    Not Nollie @BlueBirder - me!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • @Busy-Lizzie I'm so sorry, I did mean you of course. My brain obviously had a moment there!
