Avocado in water leaf curling and browning

Dear all!

a very happy weekend. I have a few avocados I have grown from seeds in water. They have been pretty awesome so far. I had to relocate them while changing houses. And seems like quite a few of the leaves are now shrivelling and curling. They do have some black ends. They are away from the radiator. But close to a window. The room however is always at 21 gmdegrees or higher. Could you advise if this seems like frost or is it some fungal disease. See pictures below

  • It looks like dehydration to me. Did you have to leave the plants out of water for some time during your house move?

If you don't think it's a hydration problem, I'd guess that they've run out of nutrients.
The big seed will have enough to keep them going for quite a while, but then I'd think they'll need to be potted up with fresh compost which will have enough nutrients for about 6 weeks, then give a weekly houseplant fertilizer feed during the growing season.
    Seaweed extract would be ideal.

  • They were out of water only for 3-4 hours. Then also not completely out of water. The bottom of roots were still in water.

I want to keep them in water and not in soil. Any other thoughts?

Put some plant food in the water?

  • Avocados will eventually need planting in soil.  Starting them off in water is one method ( tho they will sprout in a compost bin quite readily and can then be grown on ). If you are determined to grow on in water, then it may be worth you having a look at a Hydroponics Site as to what additives you will need.  I'm not aware that they are grown on this system commercially ( for the fruit ) but you could always check.

My first thought was they look like they've been sat in a draught, is the window open?
    If not, ignore this! 😄
