prepping for turf

I'm planning to lay turf on some soil that has been full of plants/wildflowers etc. I want to cover the area for a few weeks to bring up the weeds. Would permeable black membrane work or does it need to be see-through to allow light through?

    I'd leave it exposed so that you can see what comes through, then tackle it when they're growing. Covering it will only delay them coming through.
    Once they're through, you can tackle it by hand weeding or using a weed killer, depending on your preference.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
