Growing Soft Produce in Shetland (University Project)

Hi everyone,

I am part of a group of Strathclyde University Masters students currently investigating soft produce growth in Shetland, in particular growing your own vegetables and fruit. We are focusing in on the use of polytunnels and wondered if anyone had a spare minute to share their experiences/opinions of produce growth through answering the survey below. It would be a massive help to understand current practices/issues from local’s perspectives.

I have nothing to contribute to the survey, sorry, but if you want to tidy up the questionnaire just a little, it is locals’ not local’s and in Q2 e.g. not i.e.

A couple of years ago Gardeners’ Question Time came from Lerwick. Maybe that broadcast might give you some leads.

I already explained on another thread @BenCotto that, to the best of my knowledge, there's only one forum member who lives there, and they hadn't been there long. They've probably all been blown away with the weather overnight though....

I haven't seen them post in a long time either, so I doubt there's anyone who'll be able to offer any useful info.
Might be better to contact Beechgrove for some contacts.

Yes I was going to suggest Beechgrove garden as well. Even if not Shetland I know they have features on people growing in other extreme or exposed areas.
BTW it's a BBC Scotland production in case you're not aware.
