Tons of seeds I want to give away to a good cause

I have a small box of old seeds I don't want. Obviously due to cost I can't divide them and give away, so I figured they could all go to a charity or something that will make good use of these. Some of the seeds are past their sow by date, but figured they'd still be useful. They're mostly vegetable seeds with some flower ones mixed in.

Does anyone have suggestions?

See if there's a community garden nearby? Or you could post them if not - there's lots of these little wild places and allotments around now. 😊
  • I've found Charity shops can be extraordinarily picky about what they will accept but it's always worth asking  The ideal thing would be to ask around locally.  Most keen/experienced gardeners won't be put off by "sow by" dates - especially if you are giving them away.  As @Slow-worm suggests Allotment Societies /Community spaces may be happy to take them.
You probably know that there is a Seed/Plant Swap thread on here - most are happy to cover the cost of postage if that is an issue.
  • What about schools? I've come across quite a few schools that have gardens for children to learn about growing things.

A couple of years ago I did just that after seeing the school in a different gardening magazine. After reading multiple articles in GW I wanted to donate these seeds to something like a charity that does gardening to help people's mental state of mind.

Oof, heaven forbid no, not a charity shop. Thank you for the suggestion of seed swapping, but I have so many seeds and don't wish to bother with the hassle of sending multiple amounts out. Allotment societies sound like a good option though.

I know some allotments nearby, but I'm not sure if that's where I want all the seeds to go. Would prefer a charity that does gardening to help people. I cannot remember their names though. Did see them dotted about in GW a few times..

Ah yes, that rings a bell! I'll see about getting in contact with them :) Thanks!
  • Or you could give them to your local community gardens or groups. You might find them on Facebook or just google them for your area.
