@Fairygirl has pretty much covered it! Penstemons stay mostly green all year in my garden - no fuss, no slugs, just trim them back in spring and break the dead heads off. Woody salvias also keep some leaf through winter, and are one of my favourite plants - chop back in spring, and again in late summer if you want, they'll grow like the clappers, and be smothered in flowers and bees until early winter. My carnations also keep their leaves through winter. Cyclamens are also a good choice for late colour, creeping phlox is evergreen and flowers early but not for very long. You could add a couple of grasses such as a Festuca blue - just 'comb' the dead leaves from underneath when you feel like it - very pretty, neat, and beautiful seed heads which last ages. You could put a few strawberries in the gaps too.
Apologies if I'm repeating what's already been said; I'd be looking at some of the suggestions and picking some you like, then asking about those specific ones here, or reading up on them. Check the flowering times so you can stagger them and have as much colour as possible throughout the year, you can also add a few early bulbs for spring colour. Another thing to consider is water - the plants you choose shouldn't have wildly differing moisture needs (or soil), or any dry loving ones will rot. I wouldn't want anything that needs a huge amount of root room, or it will cause problems for the others in that space.
There's a bit to consider, but it'll get much simpler once you've decided on what you like, and then narrowed your list down. 😊
