Neighbour dispute

  • Could it perhaps be a home office or gym? Or maybe they are converting their garage into a room(s) and using the structure for extra storage?  I suppose that is really their own business.

It’s a shame, however, that they seem to have had little concern in how it impacts neighbours. They could at least have planted a bit of hedging behind it to soften the industrial look.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people like that nowadays. We have a similar situation with new neighbours in a different street (ie. their garden sides onto our back garden). They have taken advantage of the 'permitted development' route to remodel their house (totally open at the back during the summer) and have essentially made us not want to spend much time in our back garden. They have erected a huge pergola right next to our boundary and put lighting all over it, plus they've installed those LED spotlights in their flower beds pointing upwards towards our house. Luckily we've got plenty of tall shrubs to block most of it downstairs but have had to buy blackout curtains for upstairs. As for the music & other noise .....

They are both serving policemen/women and behave in a totally arrogant, above the law, 'stuff all the neighbours' way.

    Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

  • Sadly gardening in general seems to be moving into Barbeque and artificial grass as the norm. Very damaging to the environment.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
