Odd Compost

Hi All. I am back but with a new user name. I lost all my log in details and it has taken me ages to get it sorted so just set up another account. I used to be NeedhamBoy.

So my last question for help was:-  When I emptied out my compost bin about 12" from the bottom the compost was a bit like ashes from the bottom of a fire. All grey and dusty. from then it was ordinary compost. I have never put anything in the compost other than garden waste and grass clippings. Has anyone any idea what this could be and do you think it would be OK to continue using the compost.
No animals or other such items got into the compost.
Thanks for your help.

It's dried out and that grey colour is mould, it's really common on grass clippings that get to dry to compost, just mix it back in with the next load you make and make sure it stays moist.

It'll be fine just mixed in with the rest, as @Skandi says.
I have the opposite problem in that nothing dries out readily. I'd love my bins to be a bit drier!
Glad you got your log in sorted @HumberBoy. I don't bother logging out of the site, and that might help avoid the problem. Occasionally I'm asked to sign in again, but my details are set to be remembered so it's easy to do.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
