String of Hearts - does anyone know the problem here?

Hello everyone,

We bought a string of pears a couple of months ago and it seemed to be growing nicely. Over recent days/weeks it’s looking a little sad (see the photos). Some of the leaves have shrivelled up and appear very dry. We were conscious you can over water these so haven’t watered it much but I fear that we are under watering. The soil does seem very dry. Any ideas?

  • For such a well known range of plants, they are not easy to look after! Yes they look like they need water, but it could be that they are very shallow rooted and the water is not getting to them.
I was bought a lovely plant in a very tall pot. Unbeknown to me the roots were very shallow, and all the water they had ran past them and never soaked back up enough to keep it alive, by the time I realised and replanted it, it was too late.😭
  • Does it receive enough light? They do like bright conditions. I have one close to a west facing window, it doesn’t receive direct sunlight, but is quite bright. I’ve pruned it several times and taken cuttings, but it’s still in its nursery pot.
  • It’s in a south facing room which is generally quite bright. Not in direct sunlight though. I will water it and see how it goes.
