Leggy Lupin seedlings

Hi,

I wanted to try growing lupin this year. These are blue javelin that grow to over 1m, but it looks like they’ve etiolated and got leggy even before the cotyledon leaves have opened properly, it was a struggle to keep them upright when transferring to these pots. Plus they had a really long taproot even in their original seed modules.

May have to start again.  But wondering what I should do differently next time?

Thanks!

    Don't start so early  ;)

    Oh, because of light levels?
  • Wait! If you try them again from mid March onwards you will get a much better result. You could try repotting the ones you have in deeper pots and burying some of the stem.  Give all of them as much daylight as possible.
    Good luck :)

Yes - too little light and too much warmth.
Try doing as @Buttercupdays suggests though and repot deeper, but sow more in a month as well to make sure you have some viable plants.  :)

Alrighty, thank you guys. I’ll try repotting these and sow new ones as well in march.
