Growing aubergines outdoors?

  • I've grown aubergines outdoors for the last few years and have always had a really good harvest (apart from last year only got 3 ). I grew a long thin one and black beauty. I usually sow seeds around 20th Feb, plants go outside to South East facing garden end of May. My first aubergine harvest was16th August last year, however in previous years first harvest has been as early as late June

  • Last year was my 1st attempt. I took pity on 1/2 price B&Q specials- so I didn't grow from seed. The flowers alone were very pretty and the bees loved them. I got the plants 1st week of Jul and by mid August had fruit to harvest. They kept flowering for fruiting for weeks! Mine were in pots outdoors, Sth/West facing with a warm wall behind them.
